The opening...
The opening yesterday was a great succes...We would like to thank everybody for their help and kind thoughts. The ceremonie (pictures will follow soon) was held at Hrafnagilsskóli in Eyjafjaršarsveit. First George Hollanders held a talk about the the general intake of the exhibtion, it“s origin and a thank you to all the sponsors and those who helped out during the process of realising it. Also he mentioned some works that had a story behind them, started a dialogue or ruffled some feathers. One of them was the unfortunate event of an installation being installed in the wrong place due to a missunderstanding between the organisers. The worst thing is that it concerns about 40 BIG rocks (on the wrong side of a fence) that have been painted white to simulate huge eggs. We are now looking at a huge clean upp of this enviromental disaster "sponsored" by "Stationary Bird - Migratory Bird". Our deepest appologies go to the farmer who owns the land concerned and we will ofcourse do whatever lies in our power to clean upp this "mess". Having said this it comes to mind that it would be nice if more people and companies would do the same about "environmental accidents" created by them. Helgi Žórsson followed George“s talk with a very nice contemplation about birds using all kinds of metaphores twined into a short story. The traditional sung poetry society in Akureyri called "Gefjun" performed some beuatifull "stemmur" followed by George & Helgi playing" Krummi svaf ķ Klettagjį" with an icelandic didgeridoo. Than our new major Gudmundur Johansson, a migratory bird who hopefully becomes a stationary one, opened the exhibition. As a final topping we released 200 birds of peace...(wich were actualy helium filled balloons with the bird logo but we didn“t tell anybody). During all of this Anna Richards had a very exotic performance where she wondered through the crowd in a bright red birdsuit made by here artist friend "Billa". The opening was finished very succesfully with a guided bus tour around the exhibtion narrated by George. About 50 people joined us on this free tour in wonderfull weather. Later in the evening the artists got together for a drink and a meal discussing everything between heaven and earth - not in the least a very succesfull bird exhibition in eyjafjardarsveit.
